Winchester (based upon PR dates) to start with began utilizing the superposed “WP” Winchester Definitive proof mark in May well 1905, and ongoing to use it on most models from that point on. In my surveys, I've confirmed that day for the Design 1885, Design 1894, and Model 1897, And that i believe that Michael has confirmed the identical on the Product 1892. Winchester suitable from the start marked both the barrel as well as receiver.

Based on what I have noticed and browse in other sources, the oval (P) proof mark wasn't introduced until eventually 1908. Previous to that point, Winchester marked “OF” (outside the house fitted) on The underside of your barrel under the forend inventory for that mail buy barrels. I have see quite a few of these on Design 1885 Solitary Shot Rifles that predate 1908.

In an easy alternative situation, making new parts from scratch ,if the ordered substitution portion with proper configuration, is currently within the manufacturing unit is not really a practical selection
